FAQ's

Our friendly, reliable crew take care of everything...
Our ground staff make sure you are free from worry while on trek. All of your equipment is carried for you by our porters, three wholesome cooked meals are prepared for you each day and our English speaking trek leaders and guides look after you every step of the way. They all have a deep love and respect for their mountainous country and it's inhabitants.

Our Sirdars (head guide) and cooks are in our permanent employ and we apply a conscious policy of on-the-job training and provide career advancement opportunities. Our sponsorship of English language courses during the monsoon, accommodation assistance and education for children of staff, are ways in which we contribute to the well being of our staff and their families. For casual employees such as porters, we ensure they have warm clothing and footwear, which they are allowed to keep after their second trip with us and we place a limit on the amount they carry.

Unfortunately, such basic needs are not always met by other companies.

Your individual needs are always considered...
Your personal safety and hygiene is extremely important to us. Our cooks are trained to Western standards of food handling and scrub up before preparing meals. Salads are soaked in iodine and staff are confident enough to defer requests for drinking water until it has been adequately boiled. Small details, but ones you don't want to be thinking about when you can be enjoying spectacular mountain scenery and meeting fascinating village people.

We have also programmed preventative acclimatisation days into our treks and can detect the early signs of altitude sickness should it develop. At Everest Trekking, we make sure you have the security you need to be able to relax and enjoy every moment of your trip.

Help is always at hand, here and in Nepal...
Financial security and reliable backup is assured at Everest Trekking as we are a licensed travel agent and a member of the Travel Compensations Fund. We own our ground operating company in Nepal, ensuring all trips proceed once confirmed. We have purposefully kept our operations to a small scale to keep overheads to a minimum, provide value and to be able to personally oversee all aspects of our treks and travel arrangements. Because of this we can easily keep track of all groups on the ground and if necessary arrange prompt emergency evacuation.

Whether you're a family, a school group or someone simply looking for a trip tailored for your needs, you will find our client support in Nepal and Australia unmatched.

Small groups offer a more personal in-depth experience...
Group size is kept to a maximum of 10 to make possible a more personal in-depth experience for every member of the group. You are encouraged to walk at your own pace, separately or as part of the group, whichever you prefer. There is no pressure to keep up and you can stop as many times as you wish to take photographs, rest or to just talk to the locals. Because our groups are small, you can often alter your itinerary or route slightly, if this is acceptable to others in your group and the crew.

You are here to enjoy yourself as an individual, but you have the added comfort and protection of your group and it's crew.

You will be helping the environment...
The environment in which we walk through is naturally precious to us. We therefore take great care to minimise the effects of trekking on the delicate ecological balance which exists in many parts of the Himalaya. Crews are particularly careful to remove litter and leave campsites exactly as they found them. We always carry kerosene for cooking, reducing the heavy local demand for firewood.

By joining our group treks you contribute in a meaningful way to protecting the environment, as in contrast, independent travellers rely on receiving cooked food prepared in local lodges and inns who burn firewood, which is now scarce in heavily trekked areas of the Himalaya.

All you need to carry is yourself...
While walking with Everest Trekking you only need to carry a small daypack, containing a few items you may need during the day, such as your camera, diary, sun cream, water bottle and waterproof jacket, although rain is rare during the trekking season. Quality down-filled sleeping bags, inner sheets, padded closed cell sleeping mats, roomy 2 person tents with sewn-in floors, tables, chairs, a toilet tent, large group tent and enough food for the entire length of your trek, is all supplied and carried for you by our porters.

Nepali and Western style food is hygienically prepared by trained cooks and there is always enough for seconds. A cosy down-filled jacket is also provided for your use along with a kit bag for your personal clothing and belongings on trek, which is also carried for you by our porters. Our crew take care of all the worries, allowing you complete freedom to become totally absorbed by your surroundings and the warm hospitality offered by the friendly village people you meet on the trail.

A typical day in paradise...
You will be woken with a steaming hot cup of tea each morning, delivered to your tent by our jovial crew along with a bowl of hot washing water. After packing your gear a hearty breakfast is served in the crisp open air, amidst the sheer beauty of the surrounding Himalaya. We set off around 8am, walking "a little bit up and a little bit down" as your guide would explain, following the trail through small villages and always amongst breathtaking mountain scenery. Before long you stumble across your crew preparing lunch beside the trail… you don't even realise you have been walking for 3 to 4 hours. The afternoon walking is usually a little shorter as we reach our night camp at around 4pm… always greeted by our smiling crew with plentiful hot tea and usually a light snack. It is important to drink plenty of fluids on trek to aid in acclimatisation. The evening meal is a much anticipated tasty combination of hot vegetable, rice and meat dishes.

You will be amazed at how hungry you are, also how tired you have become. After sharing the day's experiences with your crew and your group, retiring to your tent and your warm sleeping bag is a welcome end to the day. As the days go by, you will become increasingly relaxed, fit and content. Walking like this is a profoundly satisfying way to pass the time.

An immensely rewarding experience for every member of your family...
Trekking as a family on one of our specially tailored family treks can be a very enriching, educational and enjoyable experience for every member of your family. Children as young as 8 years of age can join these treks providing they have the capability to walk approximately 11 kilometres per day and are accompanied by either or both parents. Extra Sherpas are provided on family treks to assist children with packing and unpacking sleeping bags and clothes and to carry their day packs. As Sherpas are fun loving and child centred, this aspect of the trek can be a source of great enjoyment for children and parents alike. Family treks are open only to family groups unless other trekkers specifically request to join a family trek.

Wildlife Safaris, Rafting, Climbing and other Adventures...
Tailored treks and other adventures are all possible with Everest Trekking. We can assist you to design your own adventure, including climbing, rafting or exploring Nepal's wildlife in the Royal Chitwan National Park. We provide a complimentary guided tour of Patan and Pasupatinath the day after you arrive in Kathmandu, however in addition, day tours of the Kathmandu valley can be arranged upon request.
