Annapurna Pilgrimage
» 20 Days Round Trip, 15 Days Trekking. Max Altitude: 4570m

For those who want to trek away from the more popular routes and who enjoy the challenge of walking, we have pioneered a new trek which reveals the beauty of the mountains and the excitement of the wilderness. The trek starts from Pokhara, "valley of panorama". Our introduction to trekking is the well populated regions, where we share a trail with the locals. At the junction of the Mardi and Seti rivers, we encounter our first suspension bridge and continue on to Dampus. The mountain views here are magnificent. Standing against the sky are Annapurna South (7,220m), Hinchuili (6,443m) and Machapuchare (6,995m).

From Ghandrung, a home village to many of the famous Ghurka soldiers, the trek leaves inhabited areas and for 5 days we walk in the wilderness of the Himalaya. Apart from the nomadic people who occasionally wander by, we are alone with the mountains. Our objective is Khare Khola (4,817m), a holy lake, which in August attracts hundreds of Hindus who come to make a sacrifice to the gods. At this time of the year however, there is only us. We spend a day camped below the lake, allowing us to visit the lake or explore the glaciers.

After climbing higher and closer to mountains such as Annapurna 1 (8,093m), Nilgiri (6,840m), Fang (7,649m) and Dhaulagiri (8,172m), we trek down, to join the populated routes of the hill villages. The trek ends on the banks of the Pokhara lake, where the stillness of the water reflects the mountains, now far beyond us.
